CBS went there.
At the end of the Alabama-LSU game prior to Tide coach Nick Saban and QB AJ McCarron jumping into each other’s arms, the cameras gave us a dose of deja vu by showing McCarron’s favorite women, his mother Dee Dee Bonner and girlfriend Katherine Webb, in a late game closing segment. It provided an awkwardness strikingly reminiscent to the BCS title game.
The exchange:
CBS play-by-play man Verne Lundquist: “They watch down as AJ McCarron may or may not make another appearance on the field.”
5-second awkward pause.
Gary Danielson: “That’s it? That’s all you’re gonna say?”
Lundquist: “You’re darn right. I don’t work for that four-letter network. Discretion.”
