National Weather Service bumps up predicted snowfall amounts - The Express Times - LehighValleyLive.com

The National Weather Service is now predicting 4 to 6 inches of snow could coat northwest New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley over the next two days.

That's up from the 2- to 4-inch estimate forecasters predicted earlier today. Dean Iovino, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, said tonight that snow could move into the region late Tuesday morning.

The wintry weather is expected to continue throughout the day and into the evening.

"It might be coming in a little faster than it looked earlier today," Iovino said. "The bulk of the snow looks like it will fall from the afternoon to the evening hours."

Tuesday's temperatures will be mostly in the teens, which is where the highs are expected to stay Wednesday, Iovino said. The snow coupled with the chilly temperatures could translate to "very difficult" drives home from work Tuesday night.

"It's not a good time to be driving. I imagine there will be a lot of problems around tomorrow evening's commute."

The area is in a winter weather advisory starting Tuesday morning and continuing into the wee hours of Wednesday. The wind chill values late Tuesday into Wednesday will be about 15 degrees below zero, Iovino said.

"It will just be windy and bitterly cold," he said.
