NFL playoff schedule 2014: Saints upset Eagles, will travel to face Seahawks ... - Niners Nation

Day one of the 2014 NFL playoffs was a wild one. We break down what it means for the NFC side of things. New to Niners Nation? Sign up here and join the discussion!

The first day of the 2014 NFL playoffs was wild indeed. The Indianapolis Colts put together one of the greatest comebacks in NFL postseason history, and that was followed up by the New Orleans Saints springing an upset on the Philadelphia Eagles to advance to the divisional round.

I'll be honest, the Saints win caught me off guard. The Saints had never won a road playoff game in franchise history. This year's team has shown improved defense, and that was a key today. They contained the Eagles offense, and the Saints offense did enough to secure the win.

This win means several things. The Saints now get to travel to face the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round. The winner of the 49ers-Packers contest on Sunday will travel to face the Carolina Panthers next week in the divisional round. If the 49ers can take care of business against Green Bay, then beat Carolina, and have the Saints upset the Seahawks, Candlestick Park could host the NFC Championship Game.

I'm not holding my breath for the Saints to beat the Seahawks, and there is still plenty of work remaining for the 49ers, but it is clear we are in the middle of an interesting postseason. Today was wild, but hopefully tomorrow is a little more dull.

Here is a look at the updated playoff bracket. Let's hope we can move the 49ers one spot over tomorrow!
