1D is back on ‘SNL!’ The band returned to the popular show for the first time in close to two years on Dec. 7, and they looked totally grown up rocking the hallowed stage with their songs, “Story of My Life” and “Through the Dark.” Watch the performances below!
Wow, a lot has changed in less than two years. One Direction first appeared on Saturday Night Live on Apr. 7, 2012 looking like a boy band – but when they took the stage again on Dec. 7, 2013, they were hunky, full-grown men. Which is to say, they looked amazing while nailing their SNL performance.
One Direction Performs On ‘Saturday Night Live’
The boys of 1D – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik – kicked things off with a performance of “Story of My Life.” In sleek suits, each guys sounded on point, their voices reverberating throughout the cavernous SNL set. Once again, they sang the song with real passion and soaring confidence — which must have really blown the small SNL audience away.
For their second song, 1D sang “Through the Dark.” No costume changes for these studs — still in their sharp outfits, One Direction harmonized for their folksy hit while stoically standing behind their microphones in a semi-circle. Simon Cowell should be proud.
Despite the small venue size, the choruses of “Through the Dark” still managed to be epic, and the guys — especially Niall — appeared to be loving the emotional hits of the background music.
One Direction: All Grown Up
One Direction’s performances are always amazing, so seeing them nail SNL wasn’t too shocking. But watching them on the SNL stage once again took us back to their first performance there — when they looked like little boys decked out in colorful slacks — and made us realize how quickly they’ve grown up!
They’ve all — Harry especially — grown into their bodies and now look more like male models than cover boys for Tiger Beat. And now that they’re three albums into their career, they really look confident and comfortable with being the biggest band in the world. Which explains why their recent performances have been so off the charts.
